There was good news for local businesses and homes in Cheshire and Greater Manchester earlier this week, with BT confirming it is bringing faster broadband to more areas in the region.
More than 30,000 residential and commercial properties will benefit from the latest phase of the nationwide rollout by the provider, which is expected to be completed by the summer of 2013.
Already, Greater Manchester sees nearly 900,000 premises being able to access the faster service, which provides broadband speeds of up to 20 megabits; double the level presently seen by most of the UK.
This is just the start though, as BT is also aiming to bring even faster speeds, through superfast fibre-based broadband. This is expected to bring far superior connections to two-thirds of the United Kingdom by the start of 2015.
For businesses in particular this is great news, with high speed communications vital to how trade will take place in the future.
Another upshot will be the increase in the viability of home working, with the ability to upload and download items significantly improved.
It is also good news for those working in the internet marketing industry, where faster connection speeds will ensure their work is noticed by many more people, and in a better way.
Indeed, for those with SEO jobs there is better news; greater accessibility to the web will promote greater use of it. Further more, improved speeds will promote the wider use of video watching; still a neglected area of the web by many households because of buffering issues.
