Kate Middleton proves happy breeding ground for 2012 searches

With the release of its annual zeitgeist, search engine firm Google has revealed the most popular searched for celebrities in the UK in 2012. Second in the list, under the term ‘Kate Middleton, was the Duchess of Cambridge.

Her husband did not make it alongside her into the top ten celebrity list, though her brother-ln-law ‘Prince Harry’, at number nine, did. The Royal’s visit to Las Vegas earlier in the year probably had something to do with this.

Also making it into the top three was Gary Barlow. Both were beaten to top spot by the late ‘Whitney Houston’ however, as her death in February fuelled interest in her life and career.

The top ten was completed by: Tulisa (4), Jessica Ennis (5), Fabrice Muamba (6), Michael Clarke Duncan (7), Morgan Freeman, (8) and Usain Bolt sprinting into tenth place.

The most popularly searched for UK Olympians were also listed, with the top three being, Andy Murray, Tom Daley and Jessica Ennis. Double gold medallist Mo Farah finished in an unfamiliar fourth.

An interesting point to note was cycling star Victoria Pendleton coming it a number five. Her appearance on the BBC1 show Strictly Come Dancing also pedalled the 32-year-old into first place in the Reality TV Star list.

Celebrity searches are often hard trends to predict for SEO content creators. However, being able to react quickly to current discussion will remain key for the year ahead. In 2013, there will certainly be less searches for sports related stars too.

Other hints to what will be effective in search were revealed on the other lists too.
