Google has been the leading search engine world for quite some time now. However, in recent years it has encountered a new threat in the form of artificial intelligence (AI).
In an attempt to compete with AI, Google launched an AI tool of its own by introducing the AI Mode tab. This feature will essentially provide users with exactly what they would go to AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, for. It allows users to ask more detailed questions and go into much greater depth than they would from a general Google search.
Following a recent update, Google has added an extra capability to this feature that takes its AI search’s capabilities to another level. Users are now able to take a picture of something, utilising the Google Lens technology, and ask specific questions about what can be seen in the picture. According to Google, the Lens is now able to identify certain elements of an image and provide information on the specifics of that image. So, in theory, you can ask any questions you may have which will be especially useful if you have a question on something which is difficult to put into words.
Google has stated:
“With Gemini’s multimodal capabilities, AI Mode can understand the entire scene in an image, including the context of how objects relate to one another and their unique materials, colours, shapes and arrangements.”
This is yet another way in which users can browse the internet and is another factor to be considered when creating an SEO campaign.
