In a stunning twist of events, some Google Business Profiles (GBPs) have been vanishing randomly over the past week and putting online marketers and business owners in a state of confusion.
Instances have been coming up where such profiles have not been suspended but simply vanished without notice or warning.
Joy Hawkins, a well-known SEO personality, raised the issue on social media, stating that some threads in the Google Business Profile forum have been discussing how many different profiles simply disappeared overnight. Not only has it occurred to several businesses but also to a new car dealer group, whose representative reported one of its verified profiles disappeared overnight. The profile, for no apparent reason, was simply removed even though they had screenshots and new reviews.
Google has acknowledged the issue, with a Google Product Expert confirming that the company knows about the issue and is investigating. That the issue still lacks a fix is what has kept so many business owners in limbo. Tim Capper, a second subject expert, tweeted that Google is working to develop a workaround to the issue, but no timeline for the fix is guaranteed.
For business owners, this episode serves to reinforce the fact that they have to be masters of their online presence and have a backup in reserve. GBPs lost can translate to loss of visibility, consumer confidence, and revenue. Monitoring their profiles frequently, storing valuable data, and staying current with updates and policy changes within Google are keys to success for firms.
