Last Friday, a report on Search Engine Roundtable noted a growing concern among business owners and SEO (search engine optimisation) professionals regarding Google Business Profiles.
Several complaints surfaced on Google Business Profiles forums as users noticed reviews disappearing from their local listings within Google Search and Google Maps.
Some users reported losing just a few reviews, while others experienced a significant drop, with dozens of reviews suddenly disappearing from their Google Business listing.
Without any official explanation provided by Google, users were left speculating whether this unexpected change was the result of an intentional platform update or a technical glitch.
One frustrated user shared their experience on the Google Business Profile Help forum, complaining:
“I had around 1,936 of reviews till yesterday on my Google Business Profile; however, It just became 1,856 reviews this morning. Around 80-100 reviews are missing now.”
Joy Hawkins, a well-known Google Business Profile Product Expert, addressed the situation on the Local Search Forum, confirming that the issue was a bug, and that Google were working to fix it.
Later, in an update on the Google Business Profile Help forum, Google’s Victoria Kroll confirmed that they were aware of an issue with inaccurate review counts among Google Business Profiles, stating:
“We’re aware of an issue affecting some Google Business Profiles, causing some profiles to show lower-than-actual review counts due to a display issue. The reviews themselves have not actually been removed. We’re working hard to resolve this and restore accurate review counts as quickly as possible.”
Google went on to explain that while this particular issue was the result of a bug, reviews may be removed for other reasons, and recommended that users read their Review Policy Guidelines before reporting any missing reviews.
