Fry waves goodbye to Instagram

Social media fanatic Stephen Fry has left Facebook-owned Instagram, claiming that he has been “hounded off” the service.

The 57-year-old presenter of QI is extremely popular on social media and has over 90,000 followers on the photo-sharing platform. However, he seemingly confirmed that he was leaving the social site on March 30th, after he posted a plain black image, captioning the picture:

“Newspapers, as ever, suck all the joy out of everything. Closing down. It was, briefly, fun. Bye.”

Fry has had the account for just less than two years, although he has also spent a large amount of his time on Twitter.

One of the most popular celebrities to follow in the UK, he is a regular contributor to many people’s news feeds throughout the day. There are currently around nine million people following Fry on the microblogging site.

However, here too the author and actor has often shown signs that he could perhaps be losing interest. The star has often gone missing from Twitter, as well as taking a number of more organised breaks.

Due to his periodic absences, this may not be the last that Instagram followers see of Fry, although it could be a while before his possible return. For instance, he has been off Twitter for some weeks, following his marriage earlier this year to 27-year-old Elliott Spencer.

However, the star has said that he will at least be back on Twitter, with the message on his profile telling his “dearest followers” that he is taking a holiday. The post states that Fry will be returning to the site in May.
