AI Overviews reaches 2.5 billion monthly users

Google’s AI Overviews feature has officially hit new heights of popularity by surpassing more than 2.5 billion monthly users, demonstrating how widely artificial intelligence has become part of everyday searching.

According to Google, AI Mode has also surpassed one billion monthly users. This feature allows people to explore questions through a conversational search experience using artificial intelligence. These figures show why understanding how customers find information matters.

Research has suggested that queries made through AI Mode are as much as three times longer than traditional searches. People are asking more detailed questions, including information about their requirements and the features they need.

For example, someone looking for garden furniture might ask which materials are suitable for a small garden where furniture will remain outside throughout winter. A useful answer needs to explain the differences between those materials and how they perform in those conditions.

This gives businesses a practical reason to look closely at their website content. If a product page only provides a name, price and brief description, it may leave the customer’s most important questions unanswered.

Google’s guidance confirms that established search engine optimisation principles remain relevant to its AI features. Helpful content and a website that search engines can access and understand continue to matter, although meeting these requirements doesn’t guarantee inclusion in an AI answer.

A sensible starting point is to consider what customers ask before making an enquiry or purchase. Explaining who a service is suitable for, how a product can be used and what buyers should consider gives those visitors information they can act on.

The same applies to reviewing existing pages. If descriptions are incomplete or important details have changed, updating them helps ensure potential customers have a clearer understanding of what the business offers.

At Engage Web, we help businesses create content that answers their customers’ questions and supports their visibility across search engines and AI tools. If you’d like to understand how your website could work harder for your business, speak to our team.
