Last night we attended the Merseyside Derby between Everton and Liverpool, but this particular derby game was for the reserve sides of the respective neighbours, and rather than being held at Goodison Park or Anfield, it was played at the Stobart Stadium Halton, in Widnes.
We were given free tickets when we attended the Halton & Warrington Business Fair at the Stobart Stadium last week, having never travelled to a reserve game before.
Despite the bitterly cold November evening, two first half goals served to warm up the 1,000 plus fans at the ground nicely. Liverpool opened the scoring through their occasionally used Spanish wonder kid Daniel Pacheco. Pacheco scored with a Torres styled chip over the keeper from the left hand side of the goal, a finish of pure impudence.
Sadly Everton equalised within minutes through a tap in from Victor Anichebe after some good work down the left from Magaye Gueye saw a ball slid tantalisingly across the Liverpool penalty area.
The spoils were shared at the end of the game with a 1-1 scoreline, and we made our way home after having enjoyed a great evening’s entertainment.
I guess business fairs are about more than just business.
