Google plans a new delivery service for shoppers

Google is testing a new delivery service that will enable shoppers to browse the web and search for items, and have the goods delivered to their home or workplace within one day.

Three people have information regarding the new project, but didn’t have the authorisation to speak about it until it was officially announced. The development is an attempt by Google to progress from helping consumers look for merchandise on the web, to actually delivering the goods to them.

Google has already made improvements in this area with Google Wallet, which lets people pay for goods using their mobile phone. Google Offers is a service which promotes and sells ‘daily deals’ on behalf of businesses. In October this year, Google Trusted Stores was introduced, using customer service and delivery information to verify an online retailer as trusted. If a customer isn’t satisfied with the service from a Trusted store, Google will replace the item or refund the cost.

Google doesn’t intend to become a retailer, but will partner with retailers and couriers to provide the service. The delivery service will face competition from Amazon, which has already established free delivery in two days for US customers, which costs $79 yearly. It has also introduced a delivery service for groceries in Seattle, called AmazonFresh.

Google has introduced new developments on a regular basis, enhancing the experience of users. This occasionally results in some SEO jobs becoming complex, with a requirement for continual adjustments to a SEO campaign.
