Twitter rolls out Highlights feature worldwide

Posted on September 21, 2015

Social networking site Twitter has revealed that has rolled out a new feature that will personalise each user’s timeline.

The latest addition to the site is known as ‘Highlights’, and is basically a summary of what the platform thinks will interest the user the most. It delivers this information to a user via a push notification.

Some English-speaking nations have already seen this feature when it was first tested and released, but now the platform is making it a permanent feature and introducing it worldwide to speakers of more than 35 different languages.

The feature has been designed to save users from having to sift through a large number of tweets in their news feeds each day. This makes it perfect for busy tweeters to see what’s going on with the most important accounts to them without having to spend time purposely searching for them.

Highlights is currently only available for users of the Android version of the app, with the American-based company stating that it will consider rolling the feature out for other platforms in the future, but not giving an exact timeframe.

Furthermore, not all Android users will have the function automatically switched on. This can be altered by going into settings and clicking the account for which you wish to receive notifications. From here, you can tap on mobile notifications and ensure the Highlights box is ticked.

Recently, the platform announced that it has a worldwide user base of 300 million users, in comparison to main rival Facebook’s 1.49 billion.
