The Guardian enters video content deal with Dailymotion

Posted on August 6, 2013

The online version of the Guardian is improving its video content strategy by teaming up with video sharing site Dailymotion.

The new agreement between the two media platforms will see the Guardian’s video archive – which today comprises around a month of footage – made available on its official channel on the site.

Observers believe the move is, in part, a bid to become a bigger video content provider by reaching a larger global audience.

As well as featuring existing material, the Guardian’s channel on Dailymotion will continue to be updated with the paper’s latest video content, which includes both news reports and features on sport, music, lifestyle and travel.

The move could see the news content provider experiencing significant increases in traffic, as people access the newsfeed on its video channel and click back to its main site. Dailymotion is the Internet’s second biggest video content site – the largest being Youtube – and has around 112 million users.

The Guardian’s multimedia content sales manager, Tina Westland, said:

“Having a separate dedicated Guardian channel on Dailymotion will provide us with a new platform to share this output with an even wider audience. We know that Dailymotion’s audience is one which is looking specifically for video and this partnership is a great opportunity for us to showcase our production talents in video.”

For Dailymotion, the deal with the Guardian marks the latest in a series of updates as it seeks to publish more original, premium videos.
