Strike of journalists puts pressure on newspaper

Posted on May 12, 2011

Nine members of the National Union of Journalists have finally returned to work, following two three-day walkouts. The Striking journalists called themselves ‘the Enfield nine’ and although they have returned to work, the dispute is still ongoing with Tindle Newspapers.

The dispute surrounds claims that staff who leave the newspaper won’t be replaced, which leaves existing staff struggling under a huge mountain of work. The newspaper was still published in the absence of the Enfield nine, and Tindle Newspapers claim that the edition had the same editorial as a usual bank holiday paper. However, father of the chapel, Jonathan Lovett claimed that he had bought one of the newspapers during the strike action, and the content was old, duplicated and full of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. The newspaper has announced that it isn’t replacing staff who leave in order to avoid redundancies in uncertain economic times.

Many businesses are faced with the same difficulties, especially as the economy is uncertain. This can result in reducing staff or making cutbacks to save money. However, some areas require a professional service, including the website of a business. Content outsourcing may seem an unnecessary investment, but poor copy will alienate customers and create a bad image for your company.

Fresh, original copy which is free of grammatical and spelling errors is essential to create a professional image. With so many companies competing for custom, a website which is original, updated frequently and offers accurate information is essential to your success. A professional UK copywriting service will maximise your investment.
