SEO budgets to increase in 2010

It was announced recently that the UK is now officially out of recession, and recent figures from a new report from ExactTarget and Econsultancy show that SEO spend in the UK is expected to increase in 2010 as businesses look to grow their online presence.

The report, which can be accessed here at Econsultancy, reveals that 46% of those businesses surveyed said they were planning on increasing their marketing budgets in 2010 – but 66% said they would be increasing digital marketing spend this year. Digital marketing covers PPC, search engine optimisation (SEO) and other forms of online marketing.

The figures also show that 28% of the UK businesses surveyed would be switching their marketing budgets from traditional offline areas and into online advertising.

ExactTarget believes that one of the main reasons for businesses moving towards online advertising and SEO is that ROI (return on investment) is a more important factor following the recession. Businesses now need to see just how much profit their advertising mediums are earning for them, and online advertising is particularly easy to monitor in terms of your ROI.

ExactTarget has also uploaded a video explaining reasons for the shift in marketing spend.
