Safety advice provided by Google and Citizens Advice partnership

A website has been launched by Google and Citizens Advice Bureau, who have formed a collaboration to provide safety advice when using the Internet.

Information has been provided which covers a wide range of issues on the website, named Good to Know. Adverts will also be featured, to help users stay safe online. Information will be offered on all kinds of topics, from an explanation of cookies to which passwords are considered strong, and how to form them.

A recent survey which was conducted by Ofcom’s consumers communications panel, indicated that just over a quarter of Internet users were worried about the safety of their personal data online. Privacy was a concern for 14 percent and risk of fraud worried 13 percent of people surveyed. The chief executive of Citizens Advice, Gillian Guy said that she was happy to be collaborating with the search engine giant. She said:

“Citizens Advice is all about straightforward, simple advice on the issues that matter, so helping people take control of their safety and privacy online is right up our street.”

The duo have suggested five simple ways to stay safe while online, which include not replying to emails which are suspicious or providing password details to anyone. They also suggest choosing a strong password, which is unusual.
