November witnesses biggest e-retail month

Posted on December 22, 2014

According to the latest online sales figures, last month was a great one for British companies.

The statistics, which were recently released in the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, showed that November saw the largest monthly spike in web-based sales since the index was first launched 14 years ago. According to the paper, a lot of this new traffic was fuelled by Black Friday deals.

This is also reportedly evidence of a growing confidence in online transactions from British consumers, as well as a belief that their purchases will arrive in time for the festivities.

With many web-design specialists having created company pages to be accessed via handheld devices as well, the percentage of the UK public using mobiles to make online transactions has also seen an increase of late.

E-retailers still reported an unprecedented amount of web traffic during November, especially around Black Friday. Online sales were said to have risen by 44% during the week that culminated on 28th November, which was the day that the US import fell upon.

Year-on-year growth of 20% was reported for the month of November, with an increase of 37% in month-on-month e-sales.

In all, with the many offers available to online consumers in November, it has been estimated that around £12.1bn was spent through the web during the 30-day period.

According to IMRG, when the data is broken down into sectors, gifts performed the best, with a month-on-month rise of 154%, while health and beauty was up by 99% and electricals by 71%.
