More languages added to Google voice search

Posted on August 24, 2012

Android voice search has now added another 13 languages to the existing 29, totalling 42 languages covering 46 countries. The Google voice search app is now available in Bulgarian, Basque, European Portuguese, Galician, Finnish, Catalan, Icelandic, Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak, Serbian, Swedish and Norwegian. The addition of the new languages will enable a further 100 million people worldwide to use the voice search app in their own language.

Speakers of this wide array of languages will now have access to Google Android voice search, which could make some SEO jobs a lot more complex. People will be able to access search results much more easily using Voice Search, just by talking into their phone, according to Bertrand Damiba, product manager at Google. However, pronunciation could cause some problems which is why Google will hire native speakers. Damiba said:

“While languages like Romanian follow predictable pronunciation rules, others, like Swedish, required that we recruit native speakers to provide us with the pronunciations for thousands of words.”

Google used this experience for their scientists to create a learning system to predict the pronunciation of more Swedish words. This latest development from Google could affect the SEO of a company, especially for worldwide trade. The search engine optimisation of a business website will require attention to ensure the latest changes are included in the campaign to maximise benefits. According to Google, version 2.2 of Android phones has built in Voice Search, while anyone using an earlier version will find the app on Google Play.
