LinkedIn to update security settings

Posted on September 5, 2014

Networking site LinkedIn has announced that it will be introducing three new tools designed to give its users more control and security over the information held on their accounts.

The news comes following a number of recent hacks and breaches into different companies’ software that has seen data leaked online, and the business networking site does not want to run the risk of having its users’ personal details breached.

These new facilities will include a feature that allows users to view all of the locations from which they are accessing the site. To utilise this, users will be able to click a “See where you are logged in” button within the settings menu, with a list appearing detailing this information. Users can then log out of any devices remotely from this tab.

Additionally, the service has adjusted its password change email template to include information about password alterations such as the date and time of the amendments, the location, IP address, and the device that made the change.

The third update to be introduced to accounts’ security is a new version of LinkedIn’s data export service. It will allow users to download data detailing the account’s activity. This can also be accessed via the settings menu.

The online firm has also outlined to news suppliers that it wishes users of the site to be aware of their account settings, and encourages them to ensure that they have set privacy stats to a level they are happy with.

All three of these features are in the process of being rolled out.
