Keep an eye on your rankings to improve your content

Posted on October 3, 2009

Your website’s rankings in the search engines and your content have a symbiotic relationship. One can improve the other, if you know how to play it right.

For example, when you have been writing content on your website for a few weeks, or even a few months, have a good look at your website’s rankings. Have a look at the keywords that people are searching for to find you, and which content articles have driven that. Then you should look at Google and see where you rank for those search terms. If you find you’re on page one, or at the top of page two, then you can boost your rankings by writing about the same topic and referencing back to the old article (by referencing, we mean linking).

If you use the search phrase that has brought you traffic as the anchor text for the link, you’ll improve your ranking for that phrase even more, thus improving your traffic.

This is a great way of giving you additional ideas for content and for improving your rankings in the SERPs.

You can also see what websites have given you traffic and what pages they are linking to. It’s clear that these articles you have written have proven popular, so write more of them!
