Increased transparency with new Google ads feature

Increased transparency with new Google ads feature

A new initiative has been launched by Google to dispel the privacy fears for users of Google Search and Gmail. As targeted advertisements become increasingly popular, users become suspicious of how and why they are receiving the targeted ads. A new feature, “Why these ads?” aims to explain the process and give you increased options for receiving or blocking ads.

Over recent years, concerns regarding the privacy of individuals have increased, especially surrounding social networking site Facebook, whose targeted ads are alarmingly accurate. The new feature will run alongside Google’s Ads Preferences Manager, giving greater control over which ads you receive. The Ads Preferences Manager lets you block an advertiser if you wish, for either being inappropriate or just irritating. You can also select to unblock an ad if you change your mind. Another option available means you are able to opt out of receiving targeted ads, although according to Google, you are likely to receive more advertisements if you do opt out.

Google’s new transparency of the use of targeted advertising could build valuable trust with users, rather than creating mistrust and sensitivity. A Google spokesperson recently said:

“Sometimes how we personalize ads for you can seem mysterious.”

The new Google feature will address issues of transparency once and for all. In addition to being the number one search engine, Google are constantly striving for perfection with the introduction of new features for user’s comfort. Whether your business is in Cheshire or California, you will want to appear at the top of the search engine pages, which is why a creative SEO campaign is crucial.
