Half UK employees to check emails on Christmas Day

Posted on December 25, 2011

Half of all UK workers are just as likely to be eagerly opening their emails on this Christmas morning, as they are their presents, according to a new survey published earlier this month.

The study, by security firm Securenvoy, polled a total of 1,000 Brits, all in full time work.

The results showed that the highest number of people likely to be checking their messages over the festive period came from those in the 18 – 24 age bracket.

The results also show that many people in their 20s are becoming increasingly reliant on staying in touch no matter what else they are doing. Though this study looked at how many will check work emails, it is likely that just as many, if not more so, will be checking in with their social networks.

Such results show the importance for companies to stay on top of their search and social marketing strategies throughout Christmas and the New Year.

Companies need to understand this, and ensure that the strategy they have working for them over the holidays remains relevant to what people are looking for.

Already in previous years, there have been record numbers of people shopping online on Christmas afternoon and Boxing Day. 2011 is only going to see that trend continue.

Despite many still struggling with their personal finances, or perhaps because of it, people are still eager to grab bargains in the sales. Ensuring these are well publicised, at a time when there is even greater awareness, is essential to performing well as the year changes to 2012.
