Google tops league tables as one of the UK’s highest rated brands

Posted on January 20, 2012

Google and Amazon have both appeared in the Top 20 of the BrandIndex research conducted by YouGov. The research company measures consumer perception of brands, with six categories which includes value, quality and corporate reputation. The Index score, or an average score then determines where the various companies rank in the index.

This means Google and Amazon have both successfully competed against a number of the UK’s most popular rated brands, appearing in the coveted top 20. Other well known brands to appear are Heinz, Walkers and the BBC, although the only online companies to feature in the top 20 are Google and Amazon.

Google only just beat Amazon with a Brandindex score of 60.1, with Amazon scoring 58.7. Only three brands which appear in the top 20 have improved their rating scores, including Amazon. Tech companies Panasonic and Sony also feature in the top 20 Index, with Sony reaching sixth place and Panasonic reaching 19th place. A host of other well known brands were placed in the Index, including Apple, Twitter and Facebook, although not appearing in the top 20. According to the associate director of YouGov, Sarah Murphy:

“It’s been a tough year for the leading brands, very few have managed to improve their perceptions in consumers’ eyes.”

Google, however, has remained in the top 20 favourites of consumers, which is why the search engine giant plays a huge role in a company’s SEO campaign from Liverpool to LA.
