Google to launch new video series

Posted on April 17, 2020

Search company Google is set to bring four of its top advocates together as part of a new video series it plans to launch that will be known as the Webmaster Conference Lightning Talks.

The series will be replacing in-person conferences that are normally held and each episode will consist of a short discussion similar to those that would be delivered at the Google Webmaster Conference, which due to the current global situation have all been cancelled until further notice.

The four presenters are Google Developer Advocate Martin Splitt, Google Search Advocates John Mueller and Daniel Waisberg, and Publisher Policy Outreach Lead John Brown.

The series was announced via a tweet from the Google Webmasters Twitter account on Wednesday and is to appeal to webmasters, content publishers, SEOs and web developers. While these talks may be shorter than the ones delivered at a physical conference, Google promises that the videos will be packed with useful information.

As with many conference organisers at present, Google is bringing its events online. The main difference will be that they are not live, nor is registration to view the videos required. The videos will all be uploaded to the company’s Webmasters channel on video platform YouTube. They will be available to watch at any time and will feature subtitles in 10 languages, including English, German, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.

Google has provided an insight as to what each of the featured speakers will be covering in their videos. Splitt will be covering topics such as JavaScript and links, Mueller will be focusing on HTTPS, Waisberg will discuss Google Search Console and structured data, while Brown’s videos will talk about Google’s monetised policies.

The Lightning Talks series will have videos released for the rest of the year, starting this month. The only video available to view now is a trailer* for the series.
