Google has recently announced its annual list of top trending topics for the year.
This list is becoming something of a tradition for the search giant as it takes a trip down memory lane and reveals the most searched for queries of the year.
The company has produced a number of lists which are broken down by subjects such as top trending male and female celebrities, television shows, music hits, holiday destinations and even its “how to…” list.
It has been revealed that the UK’s top trending search topic of 2015 was Cilla Black, the Scouse entertainer who sadly passed away back in August.
Black was followed by Lady Colin Campbell, who took 2nd place following a controversial stint on this year’s edition of reality television show ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’, where her sharp-tongued comments split the nation before she left the show on medical grounds.
Jeremy Clarkson was the top trending male celebrity in 2015, and fourth on the All Trends list, after a series of controversial incidents led to the former Top Gear presenter being fired by the BBC in March.
The complete list of top trending topics is detailed below:
1. Cilla Black
2. Lady Colin Campbell
3. Rugby World Cup
4. Jeremy Clarkson
6. iPhone 6s
7. Grand National 2015
8. Jurassic World
9. Election Results
10. Charlie Hebdo
Google has said that it defines its lists by identifying the topics with the “highest amount of traffic over a sustained period”.
The Rugby World Cup topped two of Google’s lists and came third in the All Trends list. The tournament was held in England and was won by New Zealand, after the hosts failed to make it out of their group.
The topic topped the Sporting Events chart and, more surprisingly, the News Moments table, beating stories such as the Paris terror attacks and the Royal baby.
The News Moments chart is below:
1. Rugby World Cup
3. Grand National 2015
4. Charlie Hebdo
5. Lamar Odom
6. Solar Eclipse
7. Wimbledon 2015
8. Royal baby
9. Tube strike
10. Caitlyn Jenner
