Google Plus comments to appear on Google News pages

Posted on May 8, 2012

Google News will soon feature comments posted by users of Google Plus, the search engine giant’s social networking site. The feature is only live in the US currently, but is expected to be activated in the UK very soon. According to Google, the latest reactions to breaking news will be made available to readers of Google News. However, a number of critics have said that they believe this is just another way to force Google Plus on to users.

Wil Wheaton, the actor who appeared in The Big Bang Theory, spoke of his concerns:

“You get people to enthusiastically use services by making them compelling and awesome and easy to use. You don’t get people to enthusiastically use your services by forcing them to.”

The actor believes that the interaction of Google+ with Google News will put people off the services. Google+ has received positive comments from many critics, particularly the idea of creating ‘Circles’ to sort your family, colleagues and friends into different groups. However, Google+ has 170 million subscribers while Facebook, which is Google’s largest rival, has 845 million subscribers.

Google News will soon provide a page of news that is covered in real time, while headline news will have a larger image. In a blog statement, Google said:

“When a story breaks, Google News is designed to give you the most relevant articles from a variety of sources- from national news outlets, to local points of view, to expert opinion pieces.”

Google aims to bring users the latest information, whether news or developments of a business in Liverpool. Google therefore plays an integral role in an effective SEO campaign.
