Google Knowledge now available in UK

Posted on August 14, 2012

Google search engineer Amit Singhal announced the launch of Google Knowledge Graph to all countries which are English speaking, including the UK. The announcement was made during a San Francisco press event. The Knowledge Graph was previously launched May this year but only available in the US.

Google’s search will use the database which contains information of more than 500 million people and places and other things which users search for, to provide a comprehensive result for a search term. Rather than searching for keywords only, Google will try to understand the search query and provide an answer based on the previous search results of other users. Singhal stated that the new improved search engine was a step closer to being able to answer any question a user asks.

A new trial will also start which will let people use the search box in Google.com to search their Gmail emails. According to Singhal, answers to search queries may sometimes be located in your emails rather than on the public web. Google is looking for a way to make a search universal and this is step towards that objective. Only the emails which are in the users account will appear on the search page, on the right hand side.

Google is striving for perfection of its search engine. However, changes can make some SEO jobs more complex, affecting the search engine optimisation of a number of companies. Businesses all over the world, from Chester to California will have to make changes to their SEO campaign as a result of this.
