Google joins the credit industry

Posted on October 14, 2012

Customers of Google Adwords will now be able to gain credit to be used exclusively on the purchase of Adwords ads. The Adwords Business Credit Card has been trialled in the US and has been declared a success, so has now entered into collaboration with Barclays to issue credit cards to business customers.

Credit will be offered to business customers ranging from $200 to $100,000, which is around £125 to £62,000 on a monthly basis. The interest rate will be charged at 11.9 per cent, a competitive rate to help its customers to purchase ads. Results of the trial carried out in the US indicate that the Adwords card is popular, with 74 per cent applying for a business credit card. The results of the pilot also indicate an increase in the purchase of advertisements. Making the credit card available to a much wider audience could encourage customers to invest more of their budget for marketing in Google Adwords. This could have an effect on the SEO and credit industry.

According to Brent Callinicos, the Google treasurer the business credit card isn’t intended to focus on profit, but to encourage investment in advertising. Just recently Google launched the scheme to Small and Medium Enterprises. The programme will be launched in the US with a credit card offered from collaboration with Comenity Capital Bank. The latest development from Google could affect the search engine optimisation of online businesses, making some SEO jobs more complex. Other companies which have ventured into financial services include Amazon and Apple.
