Google Chrome spends one day at the top

Posted on March 28, 2012

Internet Explorer lost its position at the top recently, as Google Chrome became the first choice for one day. Internet Explorer has been the number one choice globally since 1999, until the recent challenge by Chrome. According to the CEO of Statcounter, Aodhan Cullen the toppling of Internet Explorer, even for just one day, is a milestone.

However, Internet Explorer soon regained the lead as use by businesses increases during the week. At the weekend when users can choose to use whichever browser they like, the use of Google Chrome experiences a huge surge. Whether Chrome can become the top browser in the long term is still unclear, although there is a marked trend towards the use of Google Chrome over the weekends when people can choose their browser. According to data produced by Statcounter in December 2011, Chrome 15 is the favourite browser worldwide. However, the overall statistics show that Microsoft Internet Explorer remains the favourite so far.

Until recently, it was believed that Firefox would overtake Internet Explorer, but the latest versions have proved to be sluggish. Russia, India and Brazil all voted Google Chrome as their browser of choice, which helped Chrome to gain the lead position for a day, worldwide. There is still work to do by Chrome as it is still in second or third position in the US, Germany and China.

Google Chrome may not be the overall number one choice for users, but its search engine is the most popular, which is why Google plays an integral role in any SEO campaign. Whether a business is in China, the US or Chester, the search engine giant is at the forefront of any campaign.
