If you use Google Maps as your main navigation tool, you will soon be able to plan your journey ahead in greater detail and maybe save yourself a few quid.
Over the next few weeks, users will be able to plot their journey with a little more detail, adding diversions to the cheapest petrol stations, all without leaving the navigation screen.
A simple tap of the magnifying glass option at the top right hand corner of your phone will bring up a menu that not only lists petrol stations, but other businesses such as coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stores. When it comes to refuelling your car, you will be able to view all available options, such as how much you will be charged for petrol, and how long it will take you to get there – handy to know if you’re running on fumes.
If the menu doesn’t have what you’re looking for, you can use the search icon or use a voice command to find what you want.
As part of a blog post, Aditya Dhanrajani, Google Maps Product Manager, wrote:
“Whether you’re low on fuel, forgot that bottle of wine for the dinner party, or just really need a coffee to get you through your next appointment, Google Maps is here to help make stressful times easier.”
The new feature furthers Google’s commitment to local search, and highlights the importance of tailoring websites to account for it. However, it’s not the only navigation app its promoting. Google’s crowd sourced traffic app Waze saw a version 4.0 release this week, boasting a simplified interface, improved battery consumption and a feature that accounts for your travelling time in relation to events on your calendar.
