Posted on June 15, 2011

Google Maps has been updated by Google with the addition of a new feature to provide updates on the public transportation system. The feature will give details of departure times, delays and alerts in real time so that you can plan your journey with greater precision. The new project is available on your desktop, mobile browsers and if you are running Android 1.6 or higher you will be able to access with the latest version of Google Maps for mobile app.

If you plan a route using Google Maps or click on a public transport route or station, you will be given live departure times and any alerts, which may detail any detours or delays. A special icon will be used to indicate any alerts.

Only four cities in the United States have access to the new feature, including Boston, San Francisco, San Diego. Portland, Oregon will be the first city to trial the Google feature. Following the trial, Google will be introducing the feature to Spain, Madrid and Italy with more cities to be introduced as Google continue to work with public transport companies to help introduce the availability of live data for the public. The new Google feature will make travel on public services much easier, allowing you to arrive at your destination in a timely manner, whether you are travelling to Land’s End or Liverpool.

Google are adding new features for users all the time, with constant progression being made. These changes can have an impact on your search engine optimisation strategy, making it necessary for those working in SEO to stay updated.
