Fastest internet speeds unveiled in Kansas

Posted on August 3, 2012

Google Fiber will soon be available to residents of Kansas, Missouri, offering the fastest internet speed of one gigabit per second. The fast internet service has been unveiled by Google, with installations expected to start in September this year. The service will become available to other cities at a later date.

According to Patrick Pichette the chief financial officer for Google, internet speeds have become stable, with very little changing since 2000. Google intend to offer the fastest download speeds for users.

Google Fiber provides access to connections which are high speed and improved TV offerings like thousands of hours of on-demand programming and allowing live channels to be searched. Pichette confirmed that there will be no phone service, adding that a landline phone is rarely used and belongs in a bygone era. A business package will eventually be rolled out by Google, although no details have been provided. To receive a TV package with over 100 networks, internet speeds of one gigabit per second and cloud storage from Google Fiber will cost around $120 per month.

Google have included popular networks and intend to gradually add more. An analyst from Macquarie Research, Ben Schachter said that it is crucial that Google launch a product which will exceed current packages, as expectations have been raised. As more people use the internet to find information with less time to spend browsing, a fast internet speed is a valuable asset. Google has become an integral part of a company’s SEO campaign, playing a huge role in search engine optimisation.
