Facebook users to make wish lists

Posted on October 17, 2012

A new feature is being tested by Facebook which will let users create a wish list of products they would like to buy. The social media company is testing the feature with the help of seven US retailers. A ‘want’ button lets people mark the images of items they would like to purchase, sharing the items with their friends. It will also be possible for users to click straight through to the website from Facebook to make their purchases online.

Facebook is testing the new feature prior to introducing a larger development where users will have access to a new ‘like’ feature in addition to another button which will be labelled ‘collect’. As Facebook users in the US use the button, a photo album which is interactive will be created by retailers, displaying their products on the user’s Facebook page. The Facebook user can then want, collect or like products which will then be added to a collection which is displayed online. The service will eventually be available to all Facebook members. One theory is that Facebook is trialling the feature prior to moving into online commerce, encouraging Facebook users to shop online through the social media site.

The new feature could affect the SEO of an online company website, although the feature is only being trialled right now. When the button is introduced in the UK and the rest of Europe, in addition to the US, some changes will have to be made to the search engine optimisation of business sites from Ellesmere Port to LA.
