Facebook revamps iOS app ahead of iPhone launch

Posted on September 19, 2014

Social networking site Facebook has announced that it is updating its app for iOS mobile devices ahead of next week’s iPhone 6 launch.

The networking giant released a statement via its blog, telling news suppliers that it is making the app larger and clearer in order to match the bigger screen resolutions of Apple’s new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

As well as informing the public about its app update, it also wrote a small manual that shows users how to share photos from their libraries and webpage clippings through the Safari browser to a sharing page with a different layout. After clicking on the social site, users will then be faced with the usual options that allow them to select who they wish to share the information with, add locations, tag friends, and write an accompanying status update.

All in all, nothing has really changed at Facebook’s end, as the app does not yet support iOS 8 and its ‘extensibility’ feature, which allows apps to directly communicate with each other.

Aside from its small refresh, the social platform has made it clear that it has not altered its privacy rules with regards to location services. Users of the latest iOS version of the site may notice that location settings have been updated with the option to be permanently switched on, switched off, or only active when a certain app is in use.

Facebook’s iOS update is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
