Facebook adds save feature for news feeds

Posted on July 23, 2014

Social networking site Facebook is introducing a new feature that allows its users to retain and store items that appear on their news feeds for later review, including web links and pages.

This new ‘save it for later’ tool is set to be introduced to Android and iOS app versions of the social platform, as well as the web version, and is set to make it simpler for users to keep track of content they find interesting without the frustration of losing it amid the rest of their busy news feeds.

Once content has been saved, it will then appear under the ‘more’ icon on mobile versions of the site and within the sidebar on the web edition. The service will remind users that a certain news article, video clip or even location has been saved, with notifications sent when the content hasn’t been accessed in a while. Once users have finished with what they wanted to see, it can be permanently deleted in order to keep things organised.

This function comes at a time when the amount of sharable content on the site continues to grow, meaning that a lot of users can’t keep up with all of the updates posted by their friends. The company believes that this feature will keep users engaged and encourage them to stick with the service.

Online news providers believe that this new feature will be made available to all Facebook users within the coming days.
