Error escapes attention of dozens before being spotted

An error in the introduction to the US Constitution was missed by designers, clients and the project team, before finally being spotted. The glass panels at the new North Carolina Veterans Park uses the word ‘prosperity’ rather than ‘posterity’ in the introduction to the US Constitution. The error is going to be on view for a while longer as officials expect the correction process to take about a month.

The North Carolina Veterans Park was developed with money from the state, costing approximately $13 million. The park’s design was entrusted to Urban Resource Group of Raleigh, hired by the city council. The mistake was made during the design of the panels, not being spotted before being sent of to the manufacturer. While the panels were being designed, they were in the view of dozens of people, including the project committees, designers and the client themselves, but was never noticed.

It is very easy for a grammatical error or spelling mistake to go undetected, as writers commonly find it difficult to spot their own errors. The same difficulties were presented to the designers of the glass panels who didn’t spot the glaringly obvious mistake. However, errors like this that can sometimes cause a huge amount of embarrassment to the business involved, are frequently spotted by the public and occasionally ridiculed publicly.

Content outsourcing to a professional copywriting agency ensures that all copy is checked thoroughly by a qualified editor. Freelance writers may find it difficult to spot their own errors, which is why a writing agency is advisable.
