    Facebook trials temporary messaging

    Facebook has begun the testing phase of ‘vanishing messages’, in a challenge to rival Snapchat.

    The new feature means that personal messages do not have to be permanent; they can delete themselves following a set period of time.

    Mother furious as Britain First exploits daughter for poppy pic

    A mother is reportedly “livid” after far-right political party Britain First used a picture of her 13-year-old daughter in a propaganda post on Facebook.

    The picture shows two middle-aged men “protecting” the teenager, who is a member of the sea cadets and was dressed in uniform, along with another 12-year-old girl, as part of a day of action they called “Protect the Poppy”.

    App developer apologises following Google and Apple ban

    The author of an app that harvested the usernames and passwords from Instagram has offered a public apology for his deeds.

    InstaAgent, created by Turker Bayram, was taken down from app stores following the discovery that it had copied personal account details. InstaAgent, which informed users on who had viewed their profiles on Instagram, had risen to the top of (more…)

    Facebook Notify launches for smartphones

    A new iPhone app that aggregates news from a host of major sources has been launched by Facebook.

    Called ‘Notify’, the app allows users to tailor their newsfeeds using providers such as Fox, the Washington Post and CNN from a choice of over 70.

    Facebook wields banhammer for rival social network

    Shortly after promising to end the spam generated by Candy Crush Saga, Facebook is once again tackling the problem. This time, however, it’s for another social media site.

    Social media trouble brewing for Starbucks’ red cups

    Worldwide coffee chain Starbucks is seeing a growing number of its customers using Twitter to bemoan a change to its seasonal takeaway cups.

    Pintrest introduces visual search tool

    Photo sharing website Pintrest has added a new tool for people who don’t know how to put into words what it is they want to look for.

    Its answer is a new visual search capability, which allows users to focus on particular objects in pictures- or “pins” – and then find things related to those items.
