When you’re setting up a new website for your business, you’ll most likely have put a lot of thought into its content, imagery and overall appearance.
However, when creating the layout of your new website, it’s equally important to make sure each service you offer has its own designated page.
This isn’t just to make your website appear neat, organised and more user friendly (although this is certainly a nice consequence of that), but it actually has a great deal of importance when it comes to where you rank in the SERPs (search engine results pages).
Say, for example, you have a photography business. It may be that you offer more than one service, such as corporate headshots and pet portraits. While these may both fall under the category of “photography”, these are very different services, and will cater to different customers.
If both of these services are coupled together under the same page, there’s a good chance that a customer searching for one of these specific services could miss it. This is because, if they’re both labelled under the umbrella of “photography”, then Google will have a harder time placing the individual services you offer. Photography is a very general term, so the more specific you can make the content for each service page, the better the chance your target market will find exactly what they’re looking for.
Therefore, by separating these services into their own individual pages, or “pillar pages”, complete with a meta tag, description, URL and well-optimised content, you’ll see those enquiries come trickling in in no time.
