Content writing can be a big part of your overall search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign.
When writing blog articles for your website, the ultimate goal is to see your website climb Google’s rankings on your targeted search enquiries, or have your blog credited with a Google featured snippet.
This isn’t always easy, and getting your content to match what Google’s algorithm is looking for can be difficult. However, trying desperately to please Google is NOT what you should be aiming for in your blogs, according to an expert.
Google Search Liaison Danny Sullivan has said in a post on X:
“I’d encourage you (or anyone) to stop thinking “What should I do for Google” in terms of content production”.
Instead, Sullivan suggests that content should be entirely focused on the intended readers of a piece. Rather than writing aiming to please Google’s algorithm, SEO content should aim to please the real-life readers of content. In turn, this should give your content a better chance of performing well in search engines.
This latest update will come as no surprise to anyone following the latest SEO developments from Google. The search engine’s increasing focus on Helpful Content has been a major part of Google’s messaging in recent months.
Hopefully, this should offer some encouragement if you’re looking to produce content to help your website perform better, but don’t have much specialist SEO knowledge. You’ll be glad to know that, where Google is concerned, quality is still the most important feature.
