Why you need more than just your blog for your SEO strategy

Why you need more than just your blog for your SEO strategy

While blogs can be a valuable component of your SEO strategy, blogging alone may not be enough to bring business to your website.

When executed properly, a blog can help increase organic traffic to your site from visitors that may not otherwise come across your website, help establish authority and brand recognition and open the door to user engagement through comments and shares.

However helpful or creative the content on your blog may be, simply having a blog doesn’t guarantee business success or improved SEO rankings. Content is important, of course, but content alone is not enough.

There are several other factors to consider when setting your SEO strategy that may have a more significant impact.

What is the purpose of your writing? Are you writing a blog on a topic that you’re interested in, or are you writing a blog on a topic that people are searching for?

Whilst it’s easy to reel off sentences, it’s important to research whether people are searching for this information. Conducting keyword research, competitor analysis and analysing searcher intent and Google Trends data ensures that your time is well spent.

By creating blog content supported by all this information, you’re increasing the likelihood of your content ranking on search engine results pages (SERPS), which will subsequently drive the most appropriate traffic to your website.

Ensuring your website is technically sound is vital. If your website doesn’t function efficiently, how is a visitor expected to bring you any business?

If your website is full of 404 errors, visitors will be unable to reach the page they’re looking for. In some cases, the user will navigate back to the page they came from. In the worst case, the visitor will drop off the site altogether.

A negative user experience can have a detrimental impact on the success of your business. If a visitor can’t get to where they want to be on your site, they’ll take their business elsewhere. Research suggests approximately 73.72% of people who reach a 404-error page will leave a website and not return. Likewise, statistics in a study by Statistica show that 40% of people abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load. That’s 40% of potential customers to your businesss/

You can enhance the page loading speed of your website in several ways, including compressing image file sizes, using a content distribution network to host your content or by minifying the CSS, JavaScript and HTML across your site.

Without considering these factors when implementing your SEO strategy, you may struggle to reap the rewards of a successful campaign. You can build the best house on the street, but without solid foundations, it will fall.
