Why having lots of followers really isn’t THAT important

Why having lots of followers really isn’t THAT important

In today’s world of social media, where messages, reactions and emails can be sent at the click of a button, we’ve never been more connected to those around us.

Why, then, are people lonelier than ever?

It’s a common misconception that having tons of Facebook friends and LinkedIn connections aligns with how popular you or your business are away from the virtual world. If you base your business’s worth on having the highest amount of followers on Instagram, then chances are you’ve lost sight of your brand’s values.

If you’re tailoring your content purely to achieve the widest reach, then it’s inevitable you’re going to lose sight of your target audience – the people who inspired your brand in the first place. The aim of your business shouldn’t be to cater to everyone – this is a naïve perspective, based on the assumption that everyone will like you and your products.

The reality is that your business just isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. And nor should it be.

If you feel like your brand has gone off track in attempting to amass the world’s biggest audience, then bring it back to reality by asking yourself – who’s it for, really?

Realign yourself with your morals, and try to reset your goals based on reaching the best quality clients over the biggest quantity. What that looks like for you may look different to other businesses around you, and that’s ok – it’s an entirely personal thing. Your business is unique, so don’t hide your talents trying to fit in with everyone else.

By cultivating an audience based on shared values, and only working with clients you genuinely connect with, your business is guaranteed to be more successful overall, and bring in that all-important conversion.
