We wrote yesterday about how Facebook would be opening up its profile pages and fan pages to allow for search engine friendly URLs. This means that people can have their own name in the URL of their Facebook profile page, and businesses can have their own name, or a keyword, on their fan page.
Come 5am BST on Saturday, people and businesses (and SEO professionals) will be clambering to get the best URLs for their pages and their clients on Facebook in order to get the best rankings in Google for their pages.
To some it may seem futile, but when you consider that by the time that 5:01am rolls around on Saturday someone will have landed themselves /SEO as a Facebook page name, you might begin to see the benefit.
The pages will rank in Google for searches and they can feature posts linking direct to your website, using followed links. When it comes to social media and social optimisation, 5pm this Saturday will be a landmark day for many people. If you’re an SEO you know where you need to be this weekend.
