Version 6.1 will make your site perform better, hints WordPress

WordPress has announced that the 6.1 version of its content management system (CMS), which is due to be released in November this year, will bring better performance for websites, including speeding up their loading time.

The improvement to how WordPress loads the information from the website’s database by using caching (see below) should help to improve your website’s page speed. This has such benefits as improving your search engine optimisation (SEO) and general user experience.

The new update will more than likely have other updates to the platform, but these do not appear to have been released yet. Normally, they include small security updates to keep websites fully secure from hackers.

What is caching?

Caching means compressing the content on your site, which helps to make it load more quickly, resulting in a better user experience. If you are using WordPress, there are various plugins you can install on your website to help improve its page speed.

A tweet from a WordPress core committer says that they have been working on this for five or more years, which shows how important this update for WordPress is going to be.

If you have a WordPress website, once this update has been released it is always recommended to wait a few days while some people test out updates, as you don’t want to update your website only to see it go down. Furthermore, it is always recommended that you keep your WordPress website updated to help keep your website secure, and this policy should extend to your theme and plugins.
