UK small businesses get help from Google experts

Approximately 1500 small businesses in Liverpool will benefit from the wisdom search engine giant, Google, who hopes to develop the online presence of companies in the United Kingdom. The pilot will involve face to face meetings with representatives of Google, helping business owners to create a website and optimise search potential.

The managing director of Google UK, Matt Brittin, acknowledged that businesses that had a website were developing much faster than those that hadn’t yet achieved an online presence. His belief is that some companies don’t have a business website as they consider it to be a complicated process which is complex. He said:

“What we’re trying to do now is go a bit deeper, to try to understand what businesses are doing and how best to aid their growth. We’re coming to spend a significant amount of time working with people in a community and helping people make the most of the Internet.”

Brittin also considers the UK to be a leader in ecommerce, but says businesses could achieve so much more. According to the head of small business initiatives for Google UK, Raja Saggi Liverpool is the ideal place to pilot the scheme, as it has a strong sense of community and solid business connections.

The initiative, if successful will be introduced to other areas of the UK. Search engine optimisation is necessary for all businesses with an online presence, but is a complicated process for those who are inexperienced. Professional help may still be required by some companies to maximise the potential of their SEO strategy.
