Today is Remembrance Day, and in two hours the nation will hold a two minutes’ silence in honour of all of the servicemen and women who lost their lives serving their country. As part of the two minutes’ silence, The Royal British Legion has requested that users of the social networking website Twitter also remain silent for two minutes, starting at 11:00am this morning.
The Tweet was made on Twitter by @PoppySupport, the official Twitter account of The Royal British Legion.
The Tweet read:
2 minute silence on Twitter 11:00am GMT on 11 November #2minutesilence RT plz
The message is being copied by thousands of Twitter users in the hope that the silence will be upheld.
The Royal British Legion is making great use of social networking to reach younger people. LegionLive has also been set up to act as an online community for its followers, and has the goal of helping to raise ÂŁ31 million for wounded servicemen, women, and their families from recent wars.
The two minutes’ silence begins today at 11:00am.
