A feature that has just been introduced by Twitter is designed to increase security amongst multiple users on an account.
The tool, which is being offered through account management software TweetDeck, will allow people to use the same profile without having to share passwords. This, it is hoped, will mean that hackers will have a harder time gaining access to an individual’s login details.
While such a feature may not be of much use to the average Twitter user, corporate members should see the benefit if it is successfully implemented. Professional social media users often have to share accounts, especially if they are posting to news feeds and conducting reputation management initiatives on behalf of a client.
Social media hacks have proven a problem for a number of companies over the years, which is why the new tool could be welcomed by many commercial users.
Those who are already using TweetDeck to schedule posts and manage profiles will find that they can now appoint a specific user to be the administrator for an account. They can in turn create a list of people who can contribute to the profile’s news feed, using their own Twitter handles to sign in. As this removes the need for sharing passwords, there is less of a chance for login details to leak out.
For extra safety, it is possible to set up a verification tool, which would send an additional one-time code to the contributor’s phone to allow them to sign in.
