Tottenham apologises to Wayne Gretzky for spelling his name wrong

Tottenham Hotspur football club has apologised to former ice hockey player Wayne Gretzky after giving him a team shirt with his name spelled incorrectly.

Gretzky, who is the greatest goal scorer in the history of the National Hockey League, was presented with the Spurs shirt by former Tottenham captain Ledley King before a match against Arsenal. The shirt bore the name “Gretsky” and Gretzky’s former jersey number 99, which was retired by the NHL in honour of Gretzky’s considerable achievements in the sport.

The club were quick to apologise on Twitter, and despite his legendary status, Gretzky played it down by saying that it often happens. The club also promised in their tweet to send him a replacement shirt. The evening did not get any better for Tottenham, however, as they lost to their bitter rivals 2–1.

Simple spelling mistakes can often be embarrassing, especially when news of them spreads quickly through social media. If you write pieces in-house for your own news feed without having them proofread, you may be unwittingly making spelling and grammatical errors that can make you look unprofessional, and even harm your search engine rankings.

If you lack the resources to generate engaging, error-free content, a viable alternative is to source your news items from a reputable news content provider. In addition to providing a steady stream of content, these services usually incorporate a quality control process to catch any writing errors.
