Thousands of businesses expected to buy .london gTLD

With the release of the .london domain name just two months away, a high number of businesses are predicted to be readying a purchase.

A report by the BBC suggests that 200,000 firms based in the capital are going to purchase one of the new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) when it is released on April 29th.

One firm, The Meantime Brewing Company, feels that the new domain will boost its trade. The Greenwich company’s boss, Nick Miller, told the broadcaster:

“We’re proud to come from London. That’s why we want this domain.”

Further claiming that he intuitively feels the new domain will benefit exports, Miller referenced the London 2012 Olympics, which saw the number of people visiting his brewery double as ‘brand London’ was really ramped up.

As any search engine optimisation (SEO) copywriting service advises its client base, the domain name of a company is a critical component of its web presence.

Including your company name, business area, and geographical location in the domain name can make a significant difference in your page ranking on Google and other search engines.

The release of the new gTLDs will mushroom the present figure of 22 to well in excess of 1,000. The move has been designed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers to provide greater choice and encourage innovation.

It also wants to give a louder voice to the world’s emerging markets, by releasing gTLDs in non-English languages for the first time, including in Chinese and Arabic.
