Social media brimming with Easter fun

Social media brimming with Easter fun

After the long Bank Holiday, it was no surprise that confectionary retailers across the country had big plans to keep followers and fans’ newsfeeds well updated with seasonal content.

Although not necessarily ensconced in the time-honoured traditions of Easter, chocolate at this time has certainly become entrenched, especially in the form of chicks, eggs and bunnies, of course. As such, here are some of the most ‘egg-cellent’ efforts that were doing the rounds this year:

Hotel Chocolat and bunnies

Popular retailer Hotel Chocolat certainly jumped on the rabbit theme, touring its Easter Bunny around its stores. The creature visited around 40 stores in the lead up to the Easter weekend, with the retailer asking people to take a selfie with the cottontail and post it to their social newsfeed, hashtagging it #TheBeauBunny.

The campaign turned into somewhat of a success, with both Hotel Chocolat’s Twitter and Facebook walls quickly filling up with images.

Cadbury and chicks

Confectionary powerhouse Cadbury tapped into its long running #FreeTheJoy campaign for Easter this year. It was a very simple approach too, featuring a video of just two-seconds in length of a yellow chick jumping with evident joy next to four Cadbury Mini Eggs.

At the end of the video, the (sort of) time-honoured question is asked:

“What came first, the mini chicken or the Mini Egg?”

Thorntons and eggs

The third mention of chocolate-coated social media campaigns in this revue is of Thorntons, which came up with an innovative egg hunt throughout the UK. It encouraged its fans to tweet their progress using the #HarryHopalotsEggHunt! hashtag.
