Seven reasons why you should use video marketing

It’s fair to say I’m a fan of video. I’ve been making videos for even longer than I’ve been building websites and performing SEO, and that’s a long time. I made my first website in 1998, but my first video several years before. In fact, by 1998 I’d made a feature film (of sorts) so you can see my love of the moving image is a powerful one.

It’s therefore a great source of personal delight that video is so important for online marketing, and for the success of your business online. We use it a lot at Engage Web, and we make videos for our clients to help their business.

With this in mind, I thought I’d run down some statistics showing why video content is so important and why you should be using it today.

1. As many as 500 million people watch video on Facebook each day. That’s a lot of people, and a lot of video. For me, Facebook is the best platform to be using video as it’s so easy to share, tag people in and promote. I much prefer it to YouTube for its potential reach.

2. 85% of videos watched on Facebook are watched without sound. This is another reason Facebook is so effective for video – you can easily add captions and even auto generate them. Your videos must have captions so the people watching without sound can be drawn in, and not keep scrolling past them.

3. 54% of senior execs share videos with their colleagues. How could you get your marketing message to the right person? Imagine if you could not only do that, but have that person share your message with their colleagues. With video, you’re enabling that to happen.

4. Nearly half of all internet users will search for a video of a product, or a service, before they visit a store. Videos are the best way to showcase products and services, as they’re attention grabbing, entertaining, shareable and informative.

5. There are more than one billion users of YouTube. Need I say more about this one? YouTube is the second most used search engine, behind Google, and is the largest video library in existence.

6. How long should a video be? According to Animoto, almost two thirds of those polled want videos under a minute. Speaking at a conference earlier this year, a Facebook representative suggested 15 seconds was the optimum length for video ads.

7. 83% of marketing professionals said they would create more video content if they had more time or budget. This shows how important video is, and how vital it is perceived to be by the experts. Of course, time and budget shouldn’t be an obstacle to creating video content, as you can do it yourself and it doesn’t have to be polished.

That’s just seven reasons why video content should be used by everyone to market their business online. There are many more statistics to show how effective video can be, but I think you get the idea already.

Whether or not you ask for Engage Web to help, or if you do it yourself, please have a go with video to promote your business, your website and your social media. It’s an incredibly engaging way to increase your brand awareness and boost your business.
