The popular US search engine optimisation company SEOmoz, has completed the acquisition of Followerwonk, in a multimillion dollar deal.
Followerwonk, an analytics platform for Twitter, is the first significant purchase made by SEOmoz since private investment earlier in the year.
The platform has proven a welcome addition to the tool box used by marketers across the world. It essentially allows its users to drill into their Twitter followers, and have a nosey around at what they have been doing.
Interrogating the data allows Followerwonk users to see where their followers are located, the geo of where they tweet from, how often they tweet and to monitor trends. Another option is to find Twitter members tweeting about any subject – extremely handy for networking purposes.
A subscription based service for many of the tools, it will now be given to SEOmoz members as part of their regular package, who need to simply link accounts.
Speaking about the purchase, Rand Fishkin, the CEO and co-founder of the SEO firm expressed his delight at the deal, and the work done by the analytics firm already:
“Peter Bray and the Followerwonk team are awesome guys – the kind we’d want to work with even if they didn’t have this amazing product.”
In his statement, Fishkin also intimated that the analysis tools could be expanded. Possibly taking in the likes of Google+ and Pinterest.
Though presented as an SEOmoz app, Followerwonk will continue to operate under its own banner and direction for the next few months.
