A recent blog post by a top executive at Bing has stressed the importance of using good grammar and ensuring correct spelling online.
According to Duane Forrester, the senior product manager at the search engine, repeatedly making basic mistakes can force a website down the page rankings.
Forrester is quick to point out that mistakes happen and errors will inevitably get through, no matter how many editors are involved in its publishing. However, he goes on to say that if it keeps on occurring, then there may be more than just a mistake taking place.
He writes:
“If it starts to happen frequently, though, a pattern emerges.”
Monitoring these trends is clearly an important task for the boffins at Bing and not doing so would reflect poorly on the organisation.
Explaining that people will only use the search engine if they can rely on the quality of its search results, Forrester went on to say:
“…why would an engine show a page of content with errors higher in the rankings when other pages of error free content exist…?”
He also made the point that content is all about quality – whether that is through the subject or the writing skills that have gone into forming the text.
With tailored news feeds and regularly updated content increasingly being used by firms to attract visitors, the use of professional writers through search engine optimisation (SEO) copywriting services is certainly beneficial. Ideally, the work should be wrote and edited in the language that it will be published, rather than by using translation tools.
